Fiona Gallagher
Fiona is one of those characters whom we hate but idealize as well. She is a petite girl with big brown almond eyes and loads of responsibilities. Though Fiona is a young girl but her gestures and appearance don’t seem like one. With heavy dark circles and empty pockets, Fiona tries her best to support her family.
This is the girl who left off the best years of her life to make sure her family doesn’t have to suffer. She took up no matter what kind of job she was offered. Fiona never hesitated to keep her loved ones together rather than sending them to foster care. Even when she tried to share her sorrows with someone by having a relationship, even then she didn’t turn out to be lucky and was ditched many times. Towards the end, we saw changes in her personality as she stood for herself and chose to prioritize herself.
Phillip Gallagher
Phillip is a brainy guy who is the most intelligent student in the class and always scores the highest GPA. However, his fate has never allowed him to focus on his studies and Phillip had to do things that he never wished to. He always idealized his older sister Fiona and wanted to work for the family as well. Consequently, Phillip chose family over his passion for studies and gave SAT exams in other places, sold drugs, had sexual relationships, etc for the sake of money.
Phillip (better if we call him Lip like others) has always been like a pillar for the family as he took up everything along with Fiona whether it was taking care of his siblings emotionally or financially. Being stricken to harsh realities at such young age, Lip wished to do the best for all but always ended up choosing the wrong path which even took him to prison. The cruelties of life definitely affected this handsome and intelligent boy mercilessly.
Carl Gallagher
We have seen this boy growing from his early teen years to his 20s. He turned out to be a good-looking guy like his older brothers and is definitely a bundle of energy (though he employs it negatively). He always amazes everyone with his light jokes and fun activities and is usually fooled by others.
Carl was involved in various illegal activities like selling drugs, arms (like guns), explosives, etc. He is one brave guy who is never seen feared of anything and does whatever he has in mind. Don’t take it in a way that Carl is a punk but he loves his family (even his father). He is always ready to do whatever it takes to shield his family from every sort of threat though he is one of the youngest in all.
The best thing about Carl is that he is the one who broke the family stereotype and enrolled in the army and then join the police force in order to erase the mark of poverty and disrespect from his family. He made every viewer realize that we can always change, no matter how much dirt we have on ourselves and there is always a way to wash it off.
Deborah Gallagher
Deborah is called Debbie throughout the show and this sweet and short nickname really suits her. It’s really hard to define Debbie as she is different from all others. She is doesn’t even know herself. We indeed perceived great transformations in her with time. Debbie isn’t expressive and doesn’t show love for anyone instead all have to understand her feelings.
Well, Debbie always cared for her family but being young, her dreams and hormones always jerked her to things that created problems for all. Her relationships, student years, life as a single mother, and her family all caused to be things triggering her to be aggressive, pervert, and selfish. However, we did see that Franky (Debbie’s daughter) changed her to some extent.
