Shadow and Bone is set in a fictional world called Ravka, divided by a massive barrier of darkness known as the Shadow Fold. Stag is said to possess magical powers that could amplify Alina's abilities. However, would they be able to find it?

As the story progresses, Alina becomes embroiled in a complex political game involving various factions in Ravka. The game is big and includes the wealthy and influential merchants of Ketterdam, the ruthless gang known as the Dregs, and a group of criminals led by a young thief named Kaz Brekker. The plot takes several twists and turns! Alina must navigate dangerous alliances and betrayals, all while trying to save Ravka from the darkness of the Shadow Fold.

One of the major plot twists in the series involves the true identity of General Kirigan, who is revealed to be a powerful and ancient Grisha known as the Shadow Summoner.
