It all begins at the Truham Grammar High School where different students are trying to blend in which each other. The main characters Nick and Charlie are two opposite ends who are hardly ever thought to attract each other. But, we know that hearts don’t feel anything but strong emotions like love.

Charlie was the first one to show his feelings for Nick but he was resisting as wasn’t ready to accept things this way. Charlie, on one hand, is more extroverted and when it comes to expressing his feeling, whereas, Nick is shy and an undecisive rugby player who likes to keep things to himself. In this love story, some people definitely play the roles of a villain (not that kind of bad) and try to split the two. Charlie Spring
We really felt very sympathetic towards Charlie when he was brutally treated by almost everyone in the school. The reason was no doubt very simple and straight; Charlie was open to everyone about his gay sexuality but it was considered a sin. It is painful for a timid kid like him. He was ready to be invisible to all except for Ben as both were in a relationship but when he was even bullied by him then Charlie had no one to trust on.
However, Charlie was you can say, in love at first sight with Nick but couldn’t speak up the words as he wasn’t that outspoken after the incidents. But his caring nature and compassion attracted Nick to him. Who wouldn’t like a decent boy like Charlie, especially with his brown curly hair, innocent smile, and faithful eyes!
Nick Nelson
Nick can be tagged as one of the most loved characters in Heartstopper. The freckled boy got everyone’s attention because the story covers his feelings and the changes that his personality gains after Nick get along with Charlie. He also receives the limelight because he is a player and you know how much every girl and boy idealize someone who is in sports. Being a rugby player, Nick has many girls around but when he feels the presence of Charlie then he is unable to settle his anxious heart.
It was pretty hard for him to believe that he was a bisexual. Nick could perceive how the world responded to the ones who were open with their sexualities. He was feared but the support of his friends and Charlie brought courage to him.
Elle Argent
Elle is a girl who became an inspiration for all. Her character depicts how necessary it is to stand with who you are and to be proud of yourself whether it is your looks, personality, or sexuality. Being new at school was quite disturbing for Elle but she was able to cope with the bullying and irrational attitude of many around her.
Her biggest support system was Darcy who took a stand for her and was there in every up and down. Elle was always conscious of the fact that she is transgender but her friends made her realize that she’s not the only one with it and that she has the right to live like others.
Tao Xu
If we are to explain Tao then remember, when you become a shield to someone then you have to be tough as well. Tao’s case is quite similar as he is extremely cautious about things because he doesn’t wish anyone to be hurt and so becomes a little dominant in order to save them from the reaching disasters.
Tao is seen shouting, yelling, and literally being bossy (especially toward Nick) but that’s his way of showing love and affection. He becomes the villain to protect all his friends because Tao knows the school students and doesn’t wish anyone to become prey to everyone’s merciless bullying attitude.
